Air Fryer Halloween Brain Bake: An Inspiration

I was shopping around in Michael’s a few weeks ago, searching for something fun and spooky to cook with my four-year-old, Halloween-loving son, when I stumbled upon a silicon brain mold. At first, I thought about making a red velvet cake with pink icing (which I still haven’t ruled out), but when my son asked for pizza, everything locked together. We would make a pizza brain bake similar to a calzone or Stromboli.

How to Make an Air Fryer Halloween Brain Bake

If you’re feeling ambitious, you are welcome to make your own pizza dough or crust, but if you’re looking for efficiency, I bought a can of crescent rolls and pressed them into the mold, leaving dough hanging over the sides. Once you’ve pressed your crust into the mold, simply fill your “brain” with your favorite pizza ingredients. I had pepperoni, cheese, and marinara on hand, so that’s what we used. However, you could add veggies, ham, sausage, bacon, or whatever delicious combination you can dream up. The best part is that my son helped every step of the way.

Tips for Success

The tough part is that the silicone mold keeps the bottom from crisping, so after air frying the “brain” for about 12 minutes, I removed the mold and browned the top. Then, cut the “brain” into strips and watch the cheese and sauce ooze and stretch! The result is a super delicious, super fun Halloween treat the entire family will love.

Servings: 4
Ingredients
  • 1 can crescent roll dough
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • pepperoni, veggies, and other pizza toppings
  • 2 Tbsp pizza or marinara sauce
Instructions
  1. Unroll crescent roll dough into a large rectangle; press the dough into your "brain" mold, leaving some dough hanging over the edge.

  2. Layer the dough with marinara, cheese, and pizza toppings until you reach the desired thickness.

  3. Fold remaining dough over the ingredients and seal together.

  4. Place mold exposed side up in your air fryer basket and cook at 360 for 15-18 minutes. Please note that the exposed dough (the bottom) will cook faster than the bottom.

  5. Carefully remove mold and cook in air fryer for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the "brain" is lightly browned. Plate and enjoy!
