Break away from traditional french fries — try these delicious sweet potato fries, a.k.a. Yam Fries! Yams are a very hearty vegetable with a lot of nutritional value, and make a great french fry! Try it with this wonderful garlic mayonnaise or our spicy mango mayonnaise – it goes perfectly with both. Serves 4.
- Sweet Potatoes, 3 medium
- Olive Oil, 2 Tbsp.
- Salt, 1 Tsp.
- Fresh Basil, 2 Tbsp.
- Black pepper, 1/2 Tsp.
- Mayonnaise, 3/4 cup
- Garlic, 1 clove minced
- Lemon Juice, 1 Tbsp.
Cut the sweet potatoes into long “fry-like” strips. Mix the salt and pepper in with the olive oil – this is a neat trick to stop finely ground ingredients like these from being blown around inside the air fryer. Add the oil mixture to the air fryer as well and turn it on. The reason for using more oil than usual is sweet potatoes do tend to dry out quite a bit, so the extra oil helps retain that moisture.
While the yam fries are cooking in the air fryer, begin making the garlic mayonnaise sauce. Simply combine the mayonnaise, garlic, and lemon juice and stir until smoothly blended.
Cook the yam fries in the air fryer for about 22 minutes at 400 degrees. Check them for desired crispiness – it can take up to 35 minutes for them to become crispy because they are quite a bit more dense than normal french fries. Be sure to flip them halfway through the cooking process to make sure you get an even cook. Once finished, sprinkle with the chopped basil leaves to give it a nice natural appearance. Serve alongside the garlic mayonnaise sauce made above and enjoy!
